Color me Right

Do you want to add a special touch to your home with a dash of color? Studies have shown that colors can greatly affect our moods and behaviors, so making sure that you have the right colors for the rooms and decor in your home is extremely important. The colors of the rooms in your home are a direct reflection of your personality. Room color can influence our thoughts and actions.

Certain colors manage to get almost the same reactions from most people; the distinctions come from the shades or tones used. This is why it’s so significant to choose colors wisely when it comes to decorating.  We need to keep in mind that each color has a psychological value. Think about how certain colors make you feel; they can influence any emotion, from tranquility to rage. To create peace and harmony in your home, choose your colors wisely; some colors may impact you and your loved ones adversely.

For instance red, orange, and yellow can definitely fuel your appetite. In fact, when you eat on a red plate, you are more likely to consume more calories than required! So, abstain from painting your dining room or kitchen red, orange, or yellow. White or cream, on the other hand are the preferred colors – they denote cleanliness and goodness—two characteristics you definitely want around food.

Now enter the living room – here green is the best color choice for two reasons. First, it makes people feel safe and tranquil, which is exactly how you want to feel at the end of a stressful day. Second, the color green agrees with the eyes and restfully produces the least amount of eyestrain, making this a good choice if you want to sit in front of the idiot box for a couple of hours. Orange is an exciting color so it is not a good choice to use in a room where you want to relax.

A pastel blue that looks very enticing on the shade card can come across as unpleasantly chilly on the walls and furnishings – this will be more so in a room that receives little natural light. If you choose a light blue as the primary color in a room, you would need to balance it with warm hues for the furnishings and fabrics.

So we know that colors can impact our dispositions in different areas of the house. But, of course, colors aren’t the only thing that affects how people see us. But when given the choice, picking a color that will work with you, and not against you, can only help.
